I can't wait to go through everything and I can't wait for Crazy 8's Math Club to start! Look for information that will come home next week.
The ever popular Minds in Motion, which is made possible by the Connecticut Association for the Gifted, will be in Madison again this year. The event is widely popular! During the afternoon, children in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade participate in several fast paced, hands on workshops on a variety of topics. It is a great enrichment opportunity for your student! In past years many RSD 17 students have participated and had a truly remarkable experience. My own children attend every year and love it! There are also free parent workshops and programs during the afternoon. This year, Minds in Motion is on October 17th at The Country School in Madison. Click on the link below for the flyer and detailed information about the workshops. I hope to see some K.E.S. and HKMS students there!
That's right...today is National Ice Cream Day! Everyone loves ice cream, right? Here is some interesting information about ice cream and it's special day (taken from nationaldaycalendar.com):
NATIONAL ICE CREAM CONE DAYNational Ice Cream Cone Day is celebrated annually on September 22.
While there is some controversy as to who invented the ice cream cone, one of the earliest mentions of them showed up in French cook books around 1825. They were originally referred to as “little waffles” rolled into a cone shape.
Ice cream cones first became popular in the United States in the late 1800s. The earliest cones were rolled by hand. The ice cream cone made its debut at the World’s Fair in St. Louis in 1904. In 1912, an inventor from Oregon obtained a patent for a machine to make them. He sold his company to Nabisco in 1928 and they still make ice cream cones today.
The ice cream cone continues to be a popular treat for children and adults alike as more flavors of ice cream continue to be made available to please our palates.
So head over to the HK Dairy Barn this afternoon with the family and grab a cone!

Hopefully reading is a daily routine for your child. Maybe you read to your child before bed each night or your child reads on their own before they turn out their light. Imagine if you could make math part of your child's daily routine. Guess what? You can! Let me introduce you to......BEDTIME MATH!
You may already know about Bedtime Math because I have promoted it during years past, but I love it so much I want to make sure all parents know about it! Bedtime Math is a website that posts a daily math problem for kids of all ages to solve. The math problems are presented in a fun format and usually have to do with cool facts and real world information. The questions that come afterwards are in the form of fun riddles and are leveled so kids of all ages can think about the answers.
Bedtime Math is fun and only takes about 5 minutes. Make it a part of your bedtime routine at home! Solve the riddles during dinner! Wake up and work out the solutions with your child during breakfast. It is easy and fun! You can even subscribe to Bedtime Math so that you get the problem of the day emailed to you. There is also an App for Bedtime Math that you can link to your phone.
You can check out the Bedtime Math website at:
Take a look at all that it has to offer, you won't be sorry and your child love it!

If you choose to, you can subscribe to my blog so that anytime there is a new post, you will be notified.
On my blog I hope to include updates on all things L.E.A.P. including enrichment happenings, Crazy 8's Math Club, school wide enrichment opportunities, fun links for ALL students, and more! So, please check back regularly, or subscribe!
